Constant
It is finally the last week before the TV show Lost wraps up. I’m apprehensive but hoping for the best, I don’t want to use the phrase clusterfuck again, last used for the Battlestar Galactica finale. Any way, today, for 24 hours only, teefury have a lost themed t-shirt that pulls in the time travel movie that all must be judged by (see post regarding hoverboards)
First Poster
I’m excited that I have made it to my first promotion poster, I’m booked into to be support at the new room, The Chuckle Hut, that is being set up by Ray Cashman in Epping at the Epping Hotel.
Check out the facebook page.
Joke copyright
There has been a lot of whingeing in the past few years about the internet destroying the music industry with the people the call pirates “stealing” music from the artists (it is not stealing it’s copyright infringement). I always content that I think that a musician should get out there and earn money from performance and not from music sales.
There is an interesting corollary in the stand up comedian space. For comedians the thing to steal is other people material. Comic material can’t be copyrighted so there is nothing to stop some one using another person bit. However given how much great material is other there it rarely happens.(On a side note I did lose a comedy heat to someone that lifted liberally from Bill Hicks, not cool!). There is an interesting podcast over at onthemedia.org, Take my Joke, Please that discusses informal system of intellectual property enforcement. The host Brooke Gladstone talks to two law professors Chris Sprigman and Dotan Oliarand who published a paper entitled “There’s No Free Laugh (Anymore): The Emergence of Intellectual Property Norms and the Transformation of Stand-Up Comedy.
Eyjafjallajökull
It’s funny watching or listening the news at the moment. Obviously the volcano ash induced air cancellations are causing no end of problems in Europe. However every time they discuss it they always refer to the volcano eruption in Iceland. Why don’t they refer to it by name, I’m means there was St Helens, Vesuvius and Krakatua so why not call the volcano by it name, Eyjafjallajökull, how hard can that be? Eh very! Any way here is wikipedia to the rescue:
Carry on!
Where is my Hoverboard?
I have been saying this for years. I can’t believe we are now so close to 2015 (2010 at the moment) and there is no sign of a hoverboard any where. Futurologists back 30/50/100 years ago were promising all kinda of thing, flying cars, cities on the moon. None of that mattered a damn to me, all I wanted was a hover board. Here I am in my mid 30s and still no feckin sign of one. If the thing ever does get invented I’ll be too old to enjoy one.
I was so incensed I was going to set up a facebook group to petition governments to invest in inventing this technology, wasn’t I surprised to find out that there was a group already, Its 2010, where the hell is my hoverboard!? , and it already has a membership of 120,000. I think this figure speaks for itself and there is obviously a groundswell of people who want this technology and they want it now. Join now! Yes we can!
UPDATE: OK it’s 2015 and I still don’t have a hoverboard, but I do have a shop selling T-Shirts and Mugs with the above image over on cafepress, I set the shop up years ago, but there seems to be some buzz as a result of like this year so check it out, Mavek Enterprises.
Facebeard
I’m sick of facebook being so successful so I planning to set up my own competing website called facebeard. If you have a beard you can friend other people with beards. There may not be a huge uptake in the female community and those that do may be a bit rough, but at least the concept is there. Where do I get VC money from?
Ricky Martin
Ricky Martin came out today as being 38, who would have known.
